1st September 2006

Rotorua teenager Kane Radford has finished a creditable 26th in the Fina world open water swim championships in Naples today.

The 16-year-old, who competed in the Fina world youth championships that finished in Brazil on Monday, made the rushed trip to Europe for the 10km open water swim.

He finished in 2hr 21min 15sec in the 39-strong field, 10 minutes behind the winner.

Auckland’s Kylie Salt was 24th and Masterton’s Kirsten Cameron 27th in the women’s race. Salt (Mt Eden) clocked 2:33.29 and Cameron (Capital), who has been battling a rib injury that forced her out of the open water swim at the recent Pan Pacific Championships, recorded 2:44.28.
