High Performance Governance Committee update

6th July 2011

Update from High Performance Governance Committee

Kia ora

The Committee met for the second time last night, mindful of its commitment to identifying and removing barriers that might impede our New Zealand swimmers from achieving success at the 14th FINA World Championships in Shanghai, the 2012 London Olympics, and beyond.

We are grateful for the many emails, letters, phone calls and submissions we have received from the swimming community, and the meetings that you have arranged with us. We appreciate the time and passion that past and current swimmers, parents, members, clubs, regions, coaches and teachers, officials, Associations, and others have invested in seeking to provide us with possible options and solutions. This input is valued, as we seek to shape the future environment, culture, structure and roles of our high performance programme.

14th FINA World Championships

The Committee wishes our Aqua Blacks every success in Shanghai later this month. They will be officially recognised and fare-welled by Swimming New Zealand on Tuesday 12 July. If you wish to personally farewell the team, we encourage you to be at Auckland International Airport, Departure Customs/Immigration Hall on Level 1 between 9.00pm - 9.30pm on Tuesday 12 July, as they depart for Hong Kong.

We are proud of our team and we wish them safe travel and every success. They travel as one team, supporting each other, and are well supported by their coaches and officials who have only one objective in mind – that the team and each swimmer are given every chance we can to provide a platform for their success. London Olympics 2012

The Committee has commenced work on the appointment of leaders and coaches who will be charged with delivering success at next year’s Olympics, and on the high performance programme generally. If you have not done so already, we encourage you to offer your proposed solutions and options to the Committee. The easiest way is by email at hpgc@swimming.org.nz
