Skills Coach Certificate
Applicable to swimmer developmental stage
Basic Motor Learninr period 8-11 years +/- 1 year.
Prior training experience 1 year +/- mo.

Pre-requisites
- Assistant Swim Teacher Award or SwimSafe
- NZCST (School Age)
- Assistant Coach or SwimFantastic certification
Theory Component – 2 Modules
Module A
2 day course including 2 practical pool sessions

Module B
2 day course including one hour written examination.
Practical Component
- 30 hours documented coaching prior to Module B not including Module A coaching time.
- Practical pool assessment of coach effectiveness during Module B course.
- 50 hours documented coaching after Module B of which at least 20 hours must be in conjunction with an approved Mentor Coach.
- Satisfactory completion of log book for 80 hours coaching.
LOG BOOK Requirements
Your log book should include
An athlete outline including: age, number of years training, best times, areas of strengths and weakness, test set results
A record of attendance
An overall plan for the season ahead
The log book you submit is best in a diary and must include the following:
Each session should have at least one planned ‘Learning Outcome’ in each the following areas:
- Physical training,
- Technique and/or skills,
- Mental Skills
Warm-up or introductory activity
Recap of previous skills/activities
Introduction to NEW skills
A practice component
Conclusion
The content must include 'what' was asked for and 'how' it needed to be completed i.e. "what were your expectations?"
There must be the results of the evidence gathered of level of achievement / measure of performances
Each session should have a recorded evaluation (the evaluation should include an understanding of what the evidence gathered means and any other reflections on the athletes, the programme and your own performance)
