Pre-requisites
1. Skill Coach certification
Theory component
- 3 x 2 day course, or
- Residential 5 day course – SNZ School of Coaching
Practical component
- 200 hours documented coaching after completion of Skills Coach certification of which the Development Coach course will provide 20 hours and of which:
- 100 hours must be after completion of Development Coach Theory course, of which a minimum of 80 hours must be with a single group of at least 6 swimmers.
- Approved one year training and competition plan.
- Eligible hours
- Club competition attendance counts for a maximum of 3 hours.
- Provincial Championships count for a maximum of 5 hours.
- SNZ Junior National competition counts for a maximum of 7 hours.
The applicant coach must be on deck for the warm-up and competition period of at least one full session and a fully certified (theory, practical & performance) Performance Coach must sign off the attendance. Each level of competition can be counted once only.
Performance component
Swimmers from the coaches ‘permanent group’ must score the following number of points on the Junior Development Programme performance standards during the 80 required coaching hours:
- A minimum of 4 swimmers scoring 4 points each, or
- A minimum of 3 swimmers scoring 5 points each, or
- A minimum of 2 swimmers scoring 6 points each.
Only 11, 12 or 13 year old swimmers can be counted for these points.
Results of races or time-trials must conform to SNZ regulations, be properly recorded and appear on the SNZ database at www.takeyourmarks.co.nz
