ACC Drown Prevention Strategy

In 2010, 87 people drowned in New Zealand. Whilst this is the lowest number since 1980 it is still higher than it should be. In addition a further 160 people were hospitalised due to immersion incidents.

The Drowning Prevention Strategy: Towards a Water Safe New Zealand 2005-2015 provides a framework to guide the efforts of the water safety sector towards a water safe New Zealand, free from drowning.

Swimming New Zealand is very supportive of this strategy and is working within it and aligning itself to it - helping to create a water safe New Zealand.
