Snyders scores second win in NSW Swim Championships

Commonwealth Games medallist Glenn Snyders proved in a class of his own on the second night of finals at the New South Wales Championships in Sydney last night.

Snyders added the 100m breaststroke title to the 50m final he won on Friday at the Sydney Aquatic Centre.

The 23 year old from Swimming New Zealand’s High Performance Centre was the only kiwi on the podium last night.

After qualifying strongly, Snyders led from the start, opening a handy lead as the only swimmer under 30 seconds for the first 50m. He eased home in a handy 1:02.57 as he builds with his coach Mark Regan towards April’s world championship trials.

Daniel Bell was the best of the rest with two fourth placings including a 24.55s effort in the 50m butterfly won by Delhi gold medallist Geoff Huegill and 2:02.87 in the 200m backstroke to complete a solid day. Delhi silver medallist Gareth Kean, in his first competition of the year, eased home in seventh.

The experienced Melissa Ingram was a solid seventh in the finals of the 100m backstroke in 1:02.94.

The championships finish tonight.
