Altitude Training Camp Flagstaff December 2011 - Update 1
Altitude Training Camp Flagstaff December 2011 - Update 1
The travel went very smoothly. We flew into San Francisco, then into Phoenix, and then a three-hour bus drive up to Flagstaff, which is 2135 m above sea level. People are very friendly and helpful. The hotel and training facilities are great. We have a 10-min walk to and from the pool each session. The weather is beautiful and the air very fresh. Everyone is in good spirits. We’ve had four swim sessions now.
We're all feeling the effects of altitude. Sleep quality is down and exercise is more demanding. We’ve just had an 800m swim test and all athletes did well – they all seemed to adapt well. Oxygen saturation and hydration levels are all good too. We are making sure we’re getting lots of fluids in, and we’re leaving some hot water in the bathtub overnight to get the humidity up. Everything is set up for having a great training camp!
