High Performance

The High Performance Programme (HPP) delivers strategic plans and guidance to aspiring swimmers and coaches throughout New Zealand. Led by the SNZ High Performance Team the HPP is funded largely from Sport and Recreation New Zealand (SPARC) and its High Performance “arm”, the New Zealand Academy of Sport (NZAS).

The HP Team comprises High Performance Programmes Director Clive Rushton, High Performance Coaching Director Jan Cameron, High Performance Coach Thomas Ansorg, Youth Programmes Manager Clive Power, Age Group Programmes Manager, Trevor Nicholls and NZSCAT President Brett Naylor.

Funding is broken into four main areas; “core funding” which underpins the majority of HPP activites, a sport science and sport medicine service agreement with NZAS which allows “carded” swimmers to access free services, “at risk” funding which is conditional on meeting national team targets at annually agreed “PINNACLE” events (Olympic and Commonwealth Games and World Championships), and Performance Enhancement Grants (PEGs) which are paid to swimmers who are successful at Pinnacle events to help them prepare for the following year’s Pinnacle event.
