Ingram swims into World University Games final
North Shore swimmer Melissa Ingram is the sole New Zealander to contest an A final on the last night in the pool at the World University Games in Bangkok.
Ingram was seventh fastest qualifier in her favoured event, the 200m backstroke. She clocked 2:15.11 and will have confidence to go faster after swimming a meet record effort two seconds quicker in the United States last month.
Club mate Glenn Snyders will contest his third B final at the meet, clocking 28.59s to be 12th fastest in heats of the 50m breaststroke at the Thammasat University Aquatic Centre.
England-based sprinter Cameron Gibson (pictured) will contest the B final of the 50m freestyle after being 16th fastest in the heats in 23.11, while Dunedin’s Bryn Murphy clocked 15:55.88 in his heat of the 1500m to be seventh fastest from the two heats with the fastest eight ranked swimmers to compete in tonight’s finals session.
In other heats Mark Herring (West Auckland Aquatics) was 21st fastest in the 50m freestyle, Sarah Vettoretti (West Auckland Aquatics) and Kelly Bentley (Capital) were 25th and 29th fastest respectively in the 100m breaststroke and Te Rina Taite, who is based in England, and Liz Coster were 24th and 31st fastest respectively in the 50m freestyle.
