7th April 2006

Three New Zealand swimmers and one relay team have qualified for tomorrow’s finals on the third day of the Fina world short course championships in China.

Hannah McLean, Melissa Ingram, Dean Kent and the women’s 4x100m medley relay team all qualified from this morning’s heats in Shanghai, with Scott Talbot-Cameron moving through to the semifinals.

Ingram, a bronze medalist in the last world short course championships over the 200m backstroke, qualified second in today’s heats in a slick 2:07.27 with McLean, who set a New Zealand record in finishing fourth in the 100m backstroke final last night, was fifth fastest in 2:08.80.

Kent, another who impressed in the final of the 400m individual medley, was fourth fastest in the heats of the 200m in 1:58.07, close to his national record.

The women’s medley relay team went under the national record in qualifying seventh for tonight’s final, taking nearly two seconds off the old mark clocking 4:06.56.
